Day 132 - Spices are Nices

Date: 11/9/12
Location: Costa de Oro, Costa Rica

Word of the day:especia - Spice
Turtle Fact: Cold weather is fatal to the hatching of the eggs: it can kill the turtle in the egg if the temperature is below 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

Still awake from the night before, I get out of the hatchery at 5:30am. After looking around the hatchery I see that 3 baby turtles have come to the surface from one of the nests. After feeling around in the sand for other possible babies, that did not make it to the surface just yet (which I do not find any), I run into the house to see if anyone is awake (which I doubted) and to grab the camera! I release the little ones and enjoy the moment.

Awake for the day, I get started with some solid physical activity as I digout some old hatchery nests and dump the "used" sand on the beach. Performing the labor at this time of day is smart on my part as the sand is not burning my feet and the morning cooler breeze feels great on my perspiration.

Rake and pick up beach. Breakfast. Siesta 9am.

Awake 11am and make a small lunch (salad). After lunch Lotti's parents (from England) drop of a supply of food to the house (YESSSSS). Clean out fridge.

I comb the beach (all the way down the beach until it ends) looking for trash and certain types of debris for my newest special project.

Run. Swim. Catch up with neighbors. Tonight was the last night I would enjoy our neighbors company as they head back to the states (Hermosa Beach - small world I know). I am sure this is not the last I will see of them as they are some great people!

Cook. Eat (Pesto Pasta, Asparagus Soup, Flat Bread and salad). Having a vegetarian volunteer certainly has scued our dinner choices. Siesta. Updates to Hatchery.

Lesson:It easier to piece together the puzzle you are trying solve, if you know what the end picture looks like.

Food: Pesto Pasta. This simple spice packets when mixed with a little oil, lemon and additional garlic goes great with pasta. Simple, cheap, easy.
Animals: TURTLES, Dogs, Birds, spiders, flies, Ants, Crabs

Something I am thankful for: Spice Packets. Pre made with correct flavors you could ever need, turn anyone into a chef!
Something I don't want to admit: It's time to start thinking about post Costa Rica... uhg. Is paradise coming to an end?
