Day 70 - The Lost World

Date: 9/8/12
Location: Costa de Oro, Costa Rica

Word of the day: Hamburguesa - Hamburger

4am wake up. I patrol the the entire beach solo on bike. Nada. After rinsing down the bike from the sand and salt (due to an outlier wave that reached my chins), I head inside and fix myself some caffeine goodness. I work on a little HT.com before retiring for an early morning siesta.

10am, I wake up and prepare some oatmeal (apple cider flavor). Afterwords, excited from yesterday's food supply, I prepare tonight's dinner - Hamburgers. Not just any hamburgers, Victor stuffed hamburgers. I sauteed onion, red pepper and garlic. Once cooled, I mix this along with secret spices into the raw ground meat. After making the patties, I stuff the center with sauteed mushrooms. To bad we didn't have cheese to join these "fun guys".

I fill the rest of my morning with some house/outdoor chores.

Lunch. Courtney and Matt prepare some chicken taco with some casa-made salsa. I induce myself into a food coma as I listen to "The Lost Wold" on a hammock that newly placed yards away from the tide (of coarse hung on coconut trees) I get this audio mp3 from this awesome site that provides free readings. Granted I can never get myself to stand still to read a book, doesn't mean I don't enjoy a good story. Being here (Costa Rica) I find myself busy from day to day enjoying nothing but sounds of the waves crashing on the shore and the palms leaves whipping against each other at the tops of the palms trees. Occasionally I hear some kind of cat calling, from the construction workers next door as well (which I am sure is actually just random sounds of happiness and not actually trying to capture the attention of anyone else). Any-who, I find that story in my ear is relaxing and makes the mediocre daily tasks go by so much quicker. I even find myself carried away in one ear during my solo beach patrols.

After an hour or so of imaginatory drama being played out in my head, I go for a run along the beach. During the start of my run it begins to rain. Rain that lasts the rest of the night. I shower outside and head in to work on dinner.

Stuffed Burgers (with Heinz Ketchup - Thank you Chris) on Courtney's hamburger buns home-fries and carrots. Yum.

Patrol. I bike the beach solo. Well, not entirely solo, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle reading of the Lost World joins me. Nada. Where have all the turtles gone? The answer to follow in the coming day...

Sleep.

Lesson:
  • People learn in different ways
  • Marinating is under rated
  • Rain is refreshing

Food: Thick Hamburgers
Animals: Crabs, Dogs, Birds, Lizards, Mosquitoes

Something I am thankful for: Engineered Laziness. Yes, I am lazy in some faucets. Reading is one of them. Thankfully for people who donate their time and voice, I can now enjoy literary pieces of art too.

Something I don't want to admit: I pissed in the rain. Having a full bladder (after a run) and already soaking wet after my shower (and rain) I make use of the out door lavatory I made some weeks ago. However after, I feel unclean (mostly my feet) and decide to rinse off once more in the shower. It's sorta like that uneasy feeling you get when you go #2 after a shower. TMI? Oh Well.

Total Nest I have saved: 25
Total Nests Poached on my Patrol:19
Total Turtle Eggs I saved: 3,089
Total Baby Turtles I Released: 40
Days of Rain: 45/66
